Claw Machine Apps, Checkered Pants and Weighted Blankets

I’m not one to spend my money on things that I don’t need and I tend to find myself quite resourceful when it comes to hunting down the best lunch at the lowest price but we are only thirteen days into this month and I already know I have spent a fortune.

Recently I discovered the strangest thing that Japan has developed yet. Claw Machine Apps. Yes, you read that correctly. But unlike your ordinary app where you play a simulated version of a real life or mythical concept, Japan has once again proved that they are way further into the future than we are but creating real time connectivity between a users phone and a claw machine located in the Japanese city.

Over the past week or so I have indulged in playing two of these claw apps, being called Claw Toys and Clawin (Original- I know). The best part, you can play for free if you have enough patience- which I most certainly do not- as coin spins and prizes are presented to you daily.

Both of these apps work in a similar manner where you are prompted to scroll through a selection of prizes, pay in accumulated coins to play and hope for the best that the machine picks up its respective plushie- the only catch (pun intended)- for Claw Toys It can take weeks to stock up enough coins and for Clawin shipping costs over the Australian exchange rate can be awful. I was honestly quite impressed at how the machines themselves operated and found that they genuinely had a higher success rate than machines the typical E-claws of Sydney- I even managed to stock up a few toys and now anxiously await their arrival. Despite this, the games do come with a significant downfall, an incredible, most horrible, one second delay, meaning that whilst the timer is still counting down, you are waiting for your claw to respond your spamming commands.

Overall though, I rate these apps a 6/10, as they are fun and present good value, but the poor communications between the player and the claw in game play can lead to frustration or disinterest for some.

Checkered pants have gone absolutely wild within the fashion industry and almost every human in the Sydney CBD is seen to be wearing a pair or drooling over them in shop windows. But as an adult female, I am here to burst your bubble if your figure is anything like my own. For months and months I have searched for my dream pair of pants, so much so that I had planned out outfits that I would not ever be able to afford in my wildest dreams. So, for a budget shopper and a 5’5 girl whose legs take up 70% of her body, this proved to be one of my biggest challenges yet.

And by challenge, I mean camel toe. These pants have to be absolutely amazing, but for anyone who is not proportioned correctly, the high waist literally causes insane amounts of problems, and sizing up doesn’t always help because its makes the pair baggier than they should be. Though, despite months and months of searching, my tiny torso and long legs finally found a pair that meet my comfort needs at Jay Jay’s. The only issue I face is that I can’t sit down as comfortably as I would want to. But beauty is pain, is it not.

I had finally found what I thought to be my dream pair of pants

Overall, I rate my experience in not only searching endlessly but also my dissatisfaction with the comfort a 4/10.

For anyone who spends too much of their time on Facebook like me, you may have seen the constant advertisements about weighted blankets that are meant to sooth your anxiety and make sleeping a much easier feat. In all honesty, I thought it was a load of trash talking, but I was still enticed to buy myself one. Just not at an RRP of $200 when I wasn’t even sure if it would work of not. But yesterday, some luck found me when I scored an Ardor Ultra Soft Calming Blanket at an amazingly low price due to packaging damage, meaning I could finally give it a go.

And first things first, this thing is seriously heavy, as in by the time I left the store, I feared my arm would fall off from lifting it, but maybe I’m just weak. Though, I have to admit, it was also incredibly soft and comfortable to use in sleep or just lounging around the house. Just remember, the weight doesn’t necessarily mean it’s a warming blanket, so I found that in using it I was still cold without adding more layers underneath the weight.

But here’s how I slept. Usually I don’t have too many issues with my sleeping pattern, my biggest problems that keep me up at night are usually that of back pain or over-stressing about study and work. Whilst last night was my first night using the blanket, I found it really easy to adjust to and my felt as though my enduring love of being cuddled was accomplished even though I was sleeping alone. But for someone claustrophobic like my mum, she said she felt incredibly uncomfortable underneath the blanket and would not be able to sleep at all as it makes her feel like she is panicking.

My most surprising discovery though was how much better my back felt from sleeping with the blanket. The weight distribution on my legs and shoulders made the heaviness, that I usually feel in my lower back, less prominent. In all honesty, I was more satisfied with this product than I expected, but feel that once I adjust to using it, it may not hold the same effectiveness.

Overall I rate the blanket a 9/10 for my personal satisfaction of my experience, but I feel this score would vary immensely due to personal likes and dislikes.

Until next time, I hope you enjoyed my random rants and reviews.
